Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have recovered explosive materials at the Ikot Ekpene Custodial Centre, preventing what authorities described as a potential disaster.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit carried out a sweep of the facility, uncovering high explosive rounds and related materials. The devices were safely neutralised, with no casualties recorded.
Police say security has been strengthened around the facility, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the explosives and apprehend those responsible.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
