Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a significant development in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
The duo completed their registration at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday, where they were issued membership cards, sealing their entry into the party.
Obi’s move follows his earlier resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he attributed to what he described as a toxic political environment within the coalition. Kwankwaso, however, did not publicly announce his exit from the ADC prior to aligning with the NDC.
Welcoming the new entrants, NDC founder and prominent political figure, Seriake Dickson, took a swipe at their former party, highlighting ongoing internal crises and legal disputes. He described the NDC as a united and fast-growing political platform, free from factionalism and litigation, and ready to play a major role in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
The development signals a potential realignment within the opposition landscape as the country gradually builds momentum toward future electoral contests.
